A training course at the College of Science discussing the benefits and harms of radiation was organized by the Department of Physics in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit. The course, titled
"Benefits and Harms of Radiation,"
was presented by assistant instructors Saja Hazem Mohammed and Zeina Aliwi Abbas.
The course lasted for five days and was attended by a number of graduates and educators, covering fundamental concepts about radiation, its sources and types, and safe handling methods. It also highlighted its beneficial uses in the fields of medicine and industry, against the potential risks of improper exposure.
The course included an explanation of the types of nuclear reactors and a discussion of reactor construction projects in some Arab countries, in addition to ways to benefit from them in electricity production. Methods for safely managing and disposing of nuclear waste were also addressed.The course concluded with a test for the participants.
