A training course at Imam Al-Sadiq University on immunological techniques in medical laboratories was organized by the Medical Laboratories Department at the College of Health and Medical Technologies at Imam Al-Sadiq University (peace be upon him). The course was conducted by the lecturer in the Department of Applied Medical Analysis at Al-Nahrain University, Dr. Ivan Hamid Suleiman Radha. The course addressed the immunological techniques used in medical laboratories, which are essential tools for detecting diseases and analyzing antibodies and immune cells, in addition to identifying microbes or foreign bodies in the body. The course reviewed a range of common immunological methods, including:
• Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), used to detect antibodies or antigens in blood and biological fluid samples.
• Immunofluorescence technique, which relies on the use of fluorescent dye-labeled antibodies to detect antigens in tissues and cells.
• Immunoblotting (Western Blotting), which is used to identify and confirm the presence of antigenic proteins, such as the analysis of antibodies in the blood.
• Immunoprecipitation, used to isolate antigenic proteins from the sample, making it an effective tool for studying protein interactions.
• Immunohistochemistry, used to identify antigens in tissues using colored antibodies.
The lecture noted that the choice of the appropriate immunological technique depends on the type of analysis required, as ELISA is considered one of the preferred methods due to its accuracy and ease of wide application, while Western Blotting is used to confirm results in more specialized analyses. The course witnessed positive interaction from the participants, who praised the valuable information provided and affirmed its importance in developing their skills in the field of laboratory diagnostics.
