A faculty member in the Department of Medical Physics participates in a scientific seminar on invasive animal species and their environmental impact

Assistant Professor Dr. Maitham Abdulqadhem Daragh, a faculty member in the Department of Medical Physics at the College of Science at Al-Nahrain University, participated in the scientific seminar titled

"The Reality of Exotic and Invasive Animal Species Between Environmental Risks and Economic Opportunities,"

organized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research / Research and Development Department in cooperation with the Natural History Museum and Research Center at the University of Baghdad. The seminar included a series of scientific lectures discussing the threats posed by exotic and invasive animal species to the environment and biodiversity in Iraq, including: the giant African snail, the golden apple snail, the black widow spider, the red palm weevil, and the African catfish. The seminar also focused on the impact of these species on the environmental balance and local indigenous species. Among the prominent recommendations from the seminar were: raising cultural and community awareness about the risks of these species through holding workshops and discussion sessions, and activating the role of agricultural and veterinary quarantine at border crossings.In addition to adopting environmentally friendly methods to reduce the spread of these organisms, such as biological control techniques.
